Little Girl's Victorian Velvet Bonnet

W. J. Dreening of West Gardner, Massachusetts, made this bonnet, circa 1883. It is constructed of slate gray/blue velvet and buckrum and is shirred toward the front with hand-embroidered self-fabric in coral and gold threading, scalloped edged ribboning. The ties hang from the bonnet to be attached with hook and eye (missing) to form a bow under the chin! The bonnet is 5 inches wide, 7 1/2 inches tall. Maybe a really beautiful doll could also deserve such a fantastic confection!
