Late Victorian Cotton Paisley Work Dress

We hardly ever see work clothing from this era. Here we have an original prairie work dress. The shape and fullness of this dress, falling from narrow underarm to its 7 inch flounced hem, is in keeping with the 'pigeon breast' nipped waist silhouette of the period. The 36 inch attached belting runs from center back to front where it ties high over midriff. Neckline is adorned with a three inch ruffle running front and back and closes with a square shirt collar. Front placket is 25 inches long, four handstitched buttonholes (one button missing). Right front pocket measuring five inches by five inches. The highly woven fabric is in a small scale paisley of brown on beige cotton. The sleeves are full at top and bottom closing with hook and eye on a two inch cuff, somewhat faded. Condition, very good, split in fabric of 1 and 1/2 inch, left rear/waist. A rare example to add to your collection! Measurements: 11 1/2 inches shoulder to shoulder. 36 inch bust. Adustable waist to 41 inches. Hips are 68 inches. Shoulder to hem length is 59 inches. Armhole opening is 15 inches. Length of sleeve is 23 inches to 2 inch cuff.
