Antique Victorian Tea Gown in Green and Orange Paisley Stripe

Women of wealth in Victorian days wore tea gowns to receive tea in the late afternoon, typically at four o'clock, at which time Milady was able to remove her corset and underpinnings. This is an example of an authentic tea gown from New England in highly unusual color and constructed of wool silk blend in a stripe with paisley design. The hemline is trained with a polished cotton lining flowing from box pleats below the knee. The polished cotton lining is also used on the sleeves and bodice of the dress. The bodice of the dress has black velvet shoulder epaulettes with black velvet buttons (interior of wood, three are missing). The sleeves fit close to the body and are embellished with a black velvet band. Condition is very good. Bust is 34 inches Waist is 34 inches Hips are 39 inches Length of the gown is 49 inches
